The BoW Core:
Jelle Warendorff (composer, producer, filmmaker) Born in 1983 in Middelburg, the Netherlands. After receiving his master for music production at the royal conservatory of Gent (Belgium) he takes off to Central America to film the one man documentary 'Cicatriz' (2006). Undercover in gang-ridden prisons of Guatemala, El Salvador and Mexico he earns the trust of members of the two biggest latin gangs in the world and documents a compelling image of central america's 'children of the war'. During research for another documentary in Brasil (2007) he befriends a local rapper and poet Pyterson Batalha, for whom he writes and produces the album '2Extremos'. Mixing European electro and dance with Brasilian hiphop, pop and world music he earns the respect of producers such as Gutu Graça Mello and Marcel Yuka (O Rappa). In Austria (2009), along with artistic partner Aline Mohl, he funds the 'Fleisch & Blut foundation' to form a platform for all future projects. Shortly thereafter they release the debut album of the art collective 'Beat of Wings' (2010), combining organic pop & intense melodies with inventive beats. |

Alongside 'Beat of Wings' Jelle currently focusses on his work as a freelanced producer/composer for Lainproductionz and plans the foundation of Aprilsnow productions, the design/film branch of Fleisch & Blut.
Known for his stubborn perfectionism, creative hunger and love for life he manages to keep surprising his audience with projects of different allure.
Aline Kristin Mohl (Dancer, Singer, Performer) Aline was born 1985 in Bruck a. d. Mur/Austria. Since autumn 2007 she works as a freelance artist in Belgium, the Netherlands and Austria. The making of 'To Whom It May Concern':
“BoW can be compared to an ice cream shop – a lot of colours, a lot of flavours, lots of bittersweet combinations.”
But how did that spirited soundshop came into being?
“Everything began in the coffee lounge” Aline answers as if she could start telling a fairytale,
and laughs. Jelle Warendorff and Aline Kristin Mohl were both working on artistic projects in Gent (BE) when their ways crossed.
After several successful collaborations they decided to continue working together. Their wish for an independent art platform grew stronger, and in September 2008 the art collective ‘Beat of Wings’ was born. The aim for a seamless integration of different art forms was the starting point for their work.
After working for half a year divided by the Atlantic Ocean (Brazil / Belgium), Aline and Jelle realized in the beginning of 2009 that this was not the way to get BoW off the ground. The two decided to overcome these geographical differences,
and joined each other on neutral ground. Leaving everything behind they moved to Austria and collected their belongings Stift Neuberg.
Surrounded by the Austrian Alps, deep snow & silence, Beat of Wings became a reality. Jelle and Aline started to develop their artistic ideas, concepts and musical thoughts. For the first time working together so intensively wasn’t always easy. Imprisoned in the middle of nowhere they started putting feelings into motion, and whether two temperaments clashed or harmonised perfectly - the old walls couldn’t care less.
Music was chosen as the first creative starting point, creating a base for more to grow...
“To Whom It May Concern”
“At first we were completely open to see what kind of music would come out. We started with acoustic guitar, voice and piano. After some songs we realized that continuing like that we would just write one ballade after another – beautiful, but kind of boring. Definitely not what we wanted to! So Jelle set down behind his computer and started creating beats and I went into my room recording melodies.”
Artistic routine arrived with the arrival of spring. And with it, ideas became songs and songs turned into an album.
But alas, just writing the songs isn’t enough.
“The creative part is just 20% of the work” Jelle says with a grin on his face. “Getting an idea onto paper is ought to be what counts most, creation in its purest form. In real life it also means that after this initial idea you have to sit down, take a deep breath and turn that idea into a product. Now that’s work, interesting work, but work nonetheless”
Apart from that there´s always the classic equipment brakedowns, time pressure, and the ongoing struggle for a way to keep paying rent and food if your dedicating yourself for so long on a single project that makes life a little harder than usual.
“We consequently, found ourselves in the position to ask. Ask for a room, ask for another preamp, ask for favours…” Aline and Jelle have to admit. “Gladly we found open hearts and souls – invisible hands that supported us. Without the help of all those people, the album would not exist.”
In March 2010 the album will be released. “We hope it’s not the 80% of work you’ll hear when you listen to it.
We hope that it is the sadness of the salty tears, the melancholy and the heartache that made us write it. We hope that you hear the hours of laughing, the dancing and the pleasure! And we hope it’s the atmosphere of three countries, in which we created, recorded, mixed and mastered the tracks, that you feel when you listen to our debut album: Cold, icy wind, heavy raindrops clashing on the window, days which seem to never end, the first flower of the year, the burning, hot sun on our skin.. And our neighbour: the donkey”
Through this process, Aline and Jelle became passionate companions in their artistic quest and now act as a multiplier for each other in their artistic aspirations.
“Aline triggered something in me, she opened more eyes than I already had open. She was a catalyst for my own development. I don’t say I wouldn’t have found it out on my own, but it brought me there a lot faster.”
And this is just the first step. Beat of Wings has plans.
Interactive animation on stage, ideas for songs, video, movies, stage pieces…
“We’re just getting started!”
So be prepared, because in the next years, Beat of Wings will grow into a platform for different artists to exchange and create. “At least this is the vision we currently have in mind – let’s see what happens!”
